Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Angioplasty
A diagnostic catheterization, also known as coronary angiography or heart catheterization, provides detailed information about the function of the heart and its arteries. Primary angioplasty is considered the treatment of choice for Acute ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) or “heart attack.” Multiple studies have repeatedly demonstrated significant reduction in death rate for heart attack patients treated with primary angioplasty compared to those treated with traditional thrombolytics (clot-busters).
After diagnosing coronary artery blockages, CarePoint Health offers a full-range of emergent and planned interventional services to restore coronary circulation. These include angioplasty, stent placement, intra-vascular ultrasound, and fractional flow reserve measurement.
