CarePoint Health School of Nursing Designated as NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education
The CarePoint Health School of Nursing in Jersey City has been designated as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education for 2009 — 2012 by the National League of Nursing (NLN). The presentation was made on September 25 during the NLN’s annual four-day Education Summit held in Philadelphia, PA.
Christ Hospital was one of only five nursing schools in the nation to receive the organization’s prestigious Center of Excellence (COE) designation for 2009 – 2012. The award was presented in recognition of the School’s sustained efforts for creating an environment that enhances student learning and professional development. In addition, the School was recognized for offering a overwhelming number of resources to support minority students, and for providing a nurturing learning environment for students and fostering a sense of family.
Dedicated to excellence in nursing, the NLN is the premier organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. Since 2004, the NLN has invited nursing schools to apply for Center of Excellence recognition based on their ability to demonstrate sustained excellence in faculty development, nursing education, research, or student learning and professional development. Schools must also have a proven commitment to continuous quality improvement.
“The NLN is proud to recognize those schools whose faculty, staff and students are doing the outstanding work that sets them apart from others,” says Dr. Beverly Malone, CEO of the NLN. “By publicly acknowledging these best academic practices, we hope to set the bar higher in nursing programs across the board so that those entering the profession will have the best tools available to meet the challenges of a diverse, ever-changing healthcare environment.”
The CarePoint Health School of Nursing is a cooperative nursing program affiliated with Hudson County Community College. Founded in 1890, the School offers a full-time day division, part-time evening division and accelerated LPN to RN program. Graduates of the School have always done exceedingly well on the National Nursing Boards with a 95 to 100 percent passing rate nearly every year.
“We are honored to be designated as a Center of Excellence by the NLN,” states Carol Fasano, MA, RN, NP, C, CNE, Dean of the CarePoint Health School of Nursing, “and we are proud to be recognized not only for our commitment to students, but for the professional development of faculty. “Our faculty is dedicated to providing the finest education for our students, and carrying on the School’s tradition of caring and excellence in nursing education.”
“Our School of Nursing has always been a source of pride for Christ Hospital,” states Peter A. Kelly, President and CEO of Christ Hospital. “We have always enjoyed the reputation of having one of the finest nursing schools in the State, but now that we have been designated as an NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, our school has been recognized nationally, and put in a league with only 18 other schools in the nation which have had this honor bestowed upon them. I congratulate the administration, faculty and staff of our School of Nursing for a job well done.”
