Lamaze and Childbirth Education Course

This class teaches Lamaze childbirth techniques (breathing, relaxation and massage) and helps to prepare parents for the birth of their baby/babies. It covers topics including: the different types of childbirth options available; how to become more confident about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care; making informed decisions about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care; what the processes are within a hospital setting; and when and how to get support. Our goal is for you to have a safe and positive birth experience. Couples are encouraged to come together.

The Lamaze and Childbirth Education Course is either taught in a series of four separate classes or as a one-day workshop

Newborn Care Class

This is a one-session class for expectant parents. We cover the most important techniques for: bonding with your new baby/babies; taking care of your newborn; how to hold and soothe a crying baby; breastfeeding and bottle-feeding; diaper changing; bathing; cord care/circumcision care, and many more topics of interest to the group. Couples are encouraged to come together.

The Newborn Care Class is a two to three hour-long single class and is held on either weekday evenings or weekends.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

TThis is a one-session class for expectant parents. We cover the most important breastfeeding techniques, how to prevent and identify problems, pumping and milk storage, and many more topics of interest to the group. Couples are encouraged to come together.

The Prenatal Breastfeeding Class is a two to three hour-long single class and is held on either weeknight evenings or weekends.

Infant CPR Class

The purpose of this course is to teach you how to perform CPR on an infant who is younger than one year. It is based on the American Heart Association’s curriculum for Friends and Family CPR. Couples are encouraged to come together. Please note: We advise that women do not take this Infant CPR Class late in their pregnancy because of the strenuous breathing exercises that are required in learning techniques.

Infant CPR Class is a two to three hour-long single class.


New Mothers’ Support Group

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! Hoboken University Medical Center is proud to sponsor the New Mothers Support Group. The New Mothers group provides new moms and their newborn babies with a supportive environment and is a wonderful opportunity to ask advice, to get support and to meet other local moms. The group is free of charge.

The New Mothers Support Group meets every Wednesday at 11:00 am. You do not need to pre-register, but please call 201.418-2690 the day of class. An announcement will be posted on the answering machine confirming class location.
